This year 1.8 million students will graduate college and begin the competitive job search. Many won’t make it beyond the first interview - not because they don’t have the proper education - but because they lack the soft skills and preparation to deliver an interview that sets them apart from the crowd.
Talent professionals are looking for interest, commitment and an investment in the process of joining their companies. How prepared is the candidate? Do they understand the company, its culture, its industry? Are they aware of the company's latest news or its new CEO? Or are they just here for the job? A proper investment in research and study alleviate these concerns and set a candidate apart.
Recruiters are also community builders and are seeking the proper academic credentials, but more importantly, they are working to recruit those with the personal characteristics and traits that will be an asset to their company culture and community. Deliver an excellent first impression and you will be on your way to the next round.
"Under The I" connects college students with experienced professionals committed to serving as a mentor - sharing their time, experience and knowledge with college students exploring and considering their career options and decisions.
Through the Under the I program, JAX pre-screens mentors and mentees alike and works with you to help you make the best career mentoring connections.
Mentoring is a great opportunity to be part of a rewarding and potentially life-changing experience for both the mentor and the mentee. Finding and connecting with a mentor is one of the most important things a person can do to enhance their career and professional life. Many mentors and mentees remain lifelong friends and career confidantes.
If you are interested in being either a mentor or mentee, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org .
